A glass-walled studio in a garden outside Paris, a cannon on a painted stage, and a Moon with a capsule in its eye: this is the workshop where Georges Méliès made A Trip to the Moon in 1902, and the studio is often described as the first of its kind.

The artwork is drawn like a vintage engraving, in cream on black. A banner at the top reads “Georges Méliès, Star Film Co.” with a French line beneath it. Below sits the Man in the Moon, a dashed flight path of capsules running between the Moon and the Earth, and the title Le Voyage dans la Lune with the year 1902. Under that is the Montreuil studio itself: a glass-roofed building with an open front, a cannon in front of a painted lunar mountain backdrop, and a camera on a tripod with figures gathered around it. A small blueprint-style inset at the right is labeled “Studio de Montreuil” and lists, in French, the glass roof for natural light, painted scenery, tricks and superimpositions, and special effects.

It’s printed on a black 100% combed cotton t-shirt. For more in this vein, browse more picks for filmmakers.
