The Penny University Mug
In 17th century England, coffee houses had a nickname. You paid a penny to get in, and for that penny you got a coffee and access to every argument, idea, and debate happening inside. Scholars, merchants, revolutionaries, poets. All of it over coffee. They called them Penny Universities.
The Enlightenment largely happened in rooms like that.
This mug carries that name. Black, with the words set in cream serif type: The Penny University. Est. 1652. Simple enough that most people won't catch it immediately. Specific enough that the right person will stop and smile when they do.
It's a good everyday mug and an even better history lover gift for someone who takes their morning coffee as seriously as their primary sources. The kind of person who will appreciate that there's a real story behind the two words on the side.
